Mr. Munzel's standards for work submitted.

Daily textbook assignments:

Your first and last names are required on all written work. If you leave off your last name or fail to put your name on your paper, points will be subtracted from your score using this scale: in the first quarter = -1pt.; in the second quarter = -2pts.; in the third quarter = -3pts.; in the fourth quarter = -4 pts.

All daily textbook classwork may be handwritten neatly using pen or pencil. Avoid silver or other metallic inks as well as pastel shades when writing your answers because they make it difficult to read large text blocks on white binder paper.

All daily textbook homework may be handwritten neatly or typed. Avoid silver or other metallic inks as well as pastel shades. They make it difficult to read large text blocks on white binder paper.

If typing and printing your work, use only serif fonts, such as New York, Times, etc. All font faces should be in a plain style. All font sizes used for text blocks should be 12pt . Headings and titles may be in larger sizes and in other font styles and in other font faces. Use space and a half or double spacing. Print on white bond paper only, using black ink for all text blocks.

Reports or Research Papers

When doing a report you should type it. If you cannot type it contact Mr. M. immediately.

When you print your report use only black ink on plain white paper.

Your report should be double spaced (space and a half will work for some fonts).

Use only serif fonts, such as New York, Times, etc. All font faces should be in a plain style. All font sizes used for text blocks should be in 12pt . Headings and titles only may be in larger sizes and in other font styles and in other font faces and in easily legible ink colors.

You must cite the sources from which you took your information in footnotes (if you will be attending Paly next year) or using in-line citations (if you will be attending Gunn next year) and in a bibliography. Acceptible formats are available in the JLS Library.

All pages, except the title page, must be paginated (have page numbers on them).

All pages must be attached by stapling, binding, or other method. Paper clips cannot be relied upon to keep your work together. Mr. M. is not responsible for pages lost due to faulty connectors.

A title page must be attached to the report/paper and must have the title of the report/paper, your first and last names, and the period of your social studies class clearly visible on the front.

Quizzes and Tests

You should keep a number 2 leaded pencil with you at all times. Most mechanical pencil leads are number 2 hardness but you may want to check the package to be sure. Many tests and quizzes are given on Scan Tron forms which require number 2 lead to be scored correctly. Failure to use the correct lead may result in a lower score.

Short answers and fill in type test/quiz items may be completed using either pen with dark blue or black ink or dark leaded pencil.

Essay test/quiz items may be completed using either pen with dark blue or black ink or dark leaded pencil.

Personal preference clause

You may always choose to do an assignment in your own way to express your individuality. However, Mr. M. is under no obligation to read, score, or grade papers which do not conform to the above standards or to the specific assignment's requirements.

If you fail to follow the above standards, your work may be returned to you to redo in the acceptable way. On occasion, it may not be possible to allow you the extra time to "get it right" and at those times your score will be a zero.
