Mr. Munzel's Class Standards

Hi!

We are the kids Mr. M has taught before. Let us tell you about him.
First of all, he is really
different from any teacher you've ever had! He can be
a hard teacher but really he is nice after you get used to him. He is a fair
grader and even if he doesn't like someone they can still get an
A. Here
are some things you should know about being in Mr. M's class. Read them
over and think about them because they can really help you do well in his
class.

Always be on time to class so Mr. M won't make you come in after school for being tardy.

Always have assignments with you on the day they are due because Mr. M will give
you a zero for not having it - and he doesn't accept late assignments
unless you were absent or something.

Always be patient and kind to the other students in the class
because Mr. M really gets mad when he sees someone getting picked on but he
gives you extra credit if he sees you sharing and helping other kids.

Always remember Mr. M really wants you to look good in front of the
other kids so sometimes he will give you hints when he calls on you.

Always consider taking advice from Mr. M because he gives good
advice but he will let you do it your way if you want (usually his way
will get you get more points).

Always wait outside the door until Mr. M tells your class to come in.
He checks the room for things the last class might have left behind.

Always remember if Mr. M teases you, he probably likes you (yes, it's
weird but that is how he is), but if it really bothers you, tell him
and he will stop. Usually Mr. M doesn't mind being teased by students but he
never likes put downs.

Always try to say "Hi!" to Mr. M in the halls before he can say it to you
(usually he says it before you can). When he says " Hi! " to you when you're
with your friends, he isn't trying to embarrass you or anything, that's
just how he is when he is trying to be friendly.

Here are some things you really should try not to do in Mr. M's class.
Some of them just bug him but some of them really make him mad
(don't get Mr. M
steamed is our best advice to you).

Avoid eating (except as a class activity) but if you do sneak a snack don't
leave wrappers at your table because Mr. M might make the whole group
come in after school.

Avoid interrupting Mr. M during presentations, it might mess him up
and then you might not get directions you'll need to get a better score later.

Avoid picking on others and don't give put downs either.

Avoid borrowing materials by bringing your own supplies - Mr. M keeps
some pencils and pens in a container by his desk that he usually will let
you borrow.

Avoid going into Mr. M's cabinets and desk. Sometimes he keeps student's
possessions there and he'll be steamed if he sees you doing it.

Avoid cheating on tests, quizzes, or copying homework from someone
else because Mr. M will take away your paper and give you a zero if he
even thinks you are cheating. He is really strict about this!

Avoid wearing a hat in the classroom. Mr. M usually warns you if you
forget but if he takes your hat away only your parent can pick it up for
you before June.

Avoid getting a zero on an assignment, getting one or two zeroes usually won't lower your grade too much but if you get a lot early in the
semester it is almost impossible to get a good grade later and you'll have
to work really hard to raise your grade.

Well, that is what we found out about Mr. M from being in his class. We hope it
will help you. He is a really good teacher and he can be really funny. There are
other things about being in his class, too, but you'll just have to find out
about them for yourself.

Have a GREAT year!

Social Studies Learning Agreement

Read each of the following numbered items carefully. Ask a parent to read
them. Discuss them with your parent. [Students and parents sign this.]

Mr. Munzel's expectations of every student:

  1. Always give your best effort on your social studies assignments.
Mr. Munzel, as an experienced teaching professional, can tell what a best
    effort is.

  2. Always have your completed social studies assignments with you in
class on the day they are due. Remember, late work is only accepted in
cases of absence or in very rare and extreme circumstances.

  3. Mr. Munzel only gives weekly extra credit assignments after school on
the first school day of the week. Those extra credit assignments can only be
turned in after school on the last school day of the same week. Late extra
    credit is never accepted.

  4. Follow the Keys to Cooperation and Learning posted in the room.

  5. Maintain cooperative behavior in the classroom at all times.

  6. Social studies assignments will be graded only on the basis of
correctness and completeness and not by how much or by how little time it
    took you to do them.

  7. Only Mr. Munzel has the authority to excuse you from doing your social
studies assignments and only Mr. Munzel can best modify an assignment to
meet your special learning needs. (If you are in Special Ed., he may meet with
your resource teacher to plan your assignments.)

  8. Remember that not meeting any of these may lead to unwelcomed
consequences including, but not limited to, a lower grade or receiving a
    detention.
