Grading System Used in all of

 Mr. Munzel's Classes

On most assignments grades are awarded as points based upon the number of items in the assignment or by its difficulty. The score received on an assignment is entered into Easy Grade Pro, a computer gradebook application. At the end of a reporting period the student receives a print out with the following information on it:
    1. Score for each gradebook entry
    2. Total points earned
    3. Total points attempted
    4. Total points possible
    5. A percent of Total points earned out of Total points attempted.
    6. Grade in the course
    7. APPEARS ON SEMESTER REPORT ONLY: Attitude and Behavior score. Extra credit score.
Students who do not have an assignment in class when due receive a score of ( ). This is called a "zero". Easy Grade Pro calculates a score of ( ) as no points earned. The ( ) score cannot usually be turned in late. [An exception to this is that work for projects must be turned in. Students who fail to have project work in class when due may be required to remain after school to complete it. ]

Late work is not accepted unless due to an excused absence. A student who was present when an assignment was made or during the interval between the date the assignment was made and the due date, but was absent (excused only) on the date when that assignment was due is required to have the completed work in class on the first day back in school. The student who fails to have such an assignment in class when due will receive a score of ( ) . A student who was absent when an assignment was made and during the interval between the date the assignment was made and the due date but was present when that assignment was due may, at the student's option, turn in the assignment at a later time. This student will receive a score of  "ex" , meaning excused from that particular assignment. A score of "ex" is ignored by Easy Grade Pro. A grade of  "ex" neither counts for nor  against a student's grade.

The Attitude and Behavior grade
is worth forty points. The points are based upon twenty weeks in the semester with one point given for attitude and one point for behavior. Students begin each semester with forty points and points are subtracted from this total. Each score of ( ) will cause a point to be deducted from the Attitude and Behavior score. Behavior which interferes with the academic purpose of the course will also result in points being deducted at the rate of one point per occurance (students are informed when they have lost behavior points). The report of the Attitude and Behavior score is only calculated at the end of a semester.

The
Extra Credit grade is variable. Extra credit may be earned in two ways. Weekly extra credit assignments are posted by the teacher during the first TEAM period of the week but not at any other time. Completed weekly extra credit assignments may only be turned in during the last TEAM period of the week but not at any other time. The value of weekly extra credit assignments ranges from one point to four points, however the value of any particular weekly extra credit assignment is only revealed upon return of the work submitted. Weekly extra credit assignments are never accepted late . The second way extra credit is earned by a student is by exhibiting behaviors which promote the academic purpose of the class and helpfulness to others. This form of extra credit is more fully explained to each class by the teacher. No other extra credit is given to any student. The report of the Extra Credit score is only calculated at the end of a semester .
Letter grades suffixed with a minus are not generally used and if found on a report of progress indicate the lowest possible percent for that particular letter grade. The following chart is used to compare percent to letter grade:
