There are many different ways to volunteer in room 9. We are always in need of help from parents and other adults. If you are a person who enjoys working with the children or helping in the classroom, WE NEED YOU!!
Room Parents
In room 9, I prefer to have 2 room parents working together. As
a room parent you will help in planning many of the class events.
You will help plan field trips, class parties, parent volunteers,
special school events, lice checks, and any other things I may
need help with. Room parents are a very important part of our
classroom. If you are interested please let me know!
Parent Volunteers
I always hang a sign-up sheet outside of room 9. On the sheet
are the times when I need parent help the most. During these times
you will help the children with anything that they are working
on. If you would like to volunteer at the same time, same day,
every week or every other week we can work out a schedule. If
none of the times work for you, tell me when is best for you and
we can work something out. It is a very fun and special experience
to help in the classroom and the children really benefit from
your help. If you do not feel comfortable working with the children
directly you may help prepare materials for the class, either
at home or in the classroom.
Other Ways to Help
We will have class parties throughout the year. During these parties
I always need help. I need help in supplying food for the party
and help during the party. I always hang a sign-up sheet for these
parties. Sign-up!
On field trips we need drivers and parent chaperones. Before driving on a field trip you need to fill out an insurance form in the office. I encourage you to do this in the beginning of the school year. Any questions, please ask me.
The school needs volunteers on special event days such as Passport Day and Track and Field Day. If you are interested in helping on these days you will be managing a station or taking children from room 9 around. These events are really fun to attend and we can always use your help.
If you are comfortable on a computer and would like to help by typing the children's stories or journals you may do this either in the classroom or at your home. It would be great if 1 or 2 people would like to volunteer to do this throughout the year. We have a lot more typing to do after the winter break when we start writer's workshop and publishing poetry.
Our classroom can always use things such as film, film developing, zip lock bags (large size), crackers for those who forget snack, old toys for the treasure can, and any other things you would like to donate.
I understand that many of you are busy during the school but still want to help. Please contact me and we can work something out. I can always use your help in one way or another. And please remember that supporting your child is the best help you can give!
