Hi! Let me share a little about myself. My name is Jessica Pineda and this is my 3rd year at Escondido Elementary School. In my first year I did my student teaching and a long term substitute position in first grade. I was fortunate enough to stay at Escondido and continue teaching first grade. I really enjoy teaching first grade and working with the staff here at Escondido.

For my first 2 years of college I attended University of the Pacific in Stockton. At UOP, I studied Pharmacy. When I realized that my heart was not set on Pharmacy I transferred to San Jose State and received my degree in Child Development. I then attended the College of Notre Dame, in Belmont, and received a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. This is what I wanted since I was a child. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother who were my students when we were children. We would play school in the garage and guess who always got to be the teacher? At that time I was really mean to them, things have changed a little since then!

This is Roger, my husband. We love to take pictures when we travel. This picture was taken in Las Vegas, March 2001. We take lots and lots of pictures that I then file into albums.

My family is from Folsom, California, just outside of Sacramento. Like I mentioned above, I am one of 4 children. I have an older sister in New York, a younger sister, and a younger brother in Folsom. When I transferred to San Jose State I moved here to the Bay Area and fell in love with it. My husband Roger and I live in San Mateo with our dog Simba. Roger is a professional golf instructor in San Bruno. And as for Simba, he enjoys sleeping, playing, eating, and sleeping. I am sure you will hear a lot about him!

This is Simba and I posing for a photograph. Simba loves to take pictures, especially if he gets to sit on the bed! Simba is like a very big teddy bear. He loves to snuggle and have his chest scratched. Simba weighs about 130 pounds, I think he is finally done growing! Since he was a puppy he has been very playful. He is now 5 years old and we are still waiting for him to stop acting like a puppy. Although he is very large, he is extremely friendly and sometimes a scaredy cat!

I really enjoy teaching first grade. Teaching children how to read is quite amazing. The progress the children make from the beginning to the end of the year is a wonderful experience to see. In my free time I enjoy reading, sewing, watching and playing sports, and anything that takes me outdoors.

This is Dino (well not really, just a sculpture of a lizard). Dino is the class pet in room 9. He is a Bearded Dragon, and is almost 1 year old. He was born in September of 2000. Dino is very kind and playful. I'll tell you a little secret, he loves to be pet on the top of his head, it puts him to sleep! Dino looks very tough but he is actually very fragile and soft. He eats crickets, green veggies, and sometimes for a treat, meal worms. If you have not seen him yet, come by and say hi!
