Room 15 Discipline System
Discipline System in Room 15
3rd Grade Spanish Immersion
Señora Kimberly
Objective:
The students in Señora Kimberly's class will demonstrate
positive behaviors, recognize that life is filled with choices, accept the consequences
of a poor choice, understand the value of always doing one's personal best,
and feel successful in the classroom learning environment.
System:
Everyday is a new day in room 15. Every child is greeted with a handshake and a smile. When a child violates a school or classroom guideline, (s)he is issued a verbal warning/reminder. If the problem persists, (s)he is asked to cool-off in Australia (a place to reflect and regroup) and asked to rejoin the group/activity when ready to respect guidelines (this usually involves a brief 1-1 conference with Senora Kim). Once the student reaches a third warning (s)he is asked to take some time in another classroom to reflect on the situation, and fill out a L1FESKlLL Citation (see Back to School night Package). The citation is designed to help the child process the events leading up to their time out of class, see how the choices they made affected others, and look for an appropriate way to regroup in order to return to the classroom as a productive member of the learning community.
Consequence:
Once a child has completed the LIFESKlLL Citation, the "receiving teacher"
will check it to determine whether the student has been able to successfully
process the situation, and is ready to return to class. If it appears that the
child has been able to accept responsibility for their own choices/actions the
receiving teacher will send them back to room 15. If a particular student appears
to be receiving a large number of L1FESKlLL Citations, (s)he will be sent to
meet with Mr. Prehn, and/or a parent conference will be scheduled. In the event
that a student is asked to complete a L1FESKlLL Citation (s)he will be responsible
for sharing the Citation with her/his parents, who will need to sign and return
the paper promptly, indicating they are aware of the situation, and understand
the consequences received. If your child receives a Citation, do NOT feel the
need to further punish your child, focus instead on what (s)he learned and can
do differently next time.
