Chemfinder.com
(Use this site only if you already
know the chemical name of the molecule you will be researching,
not to browse.) Enter a chemical name, CAS
Number, molecular formula, or molecular weight Use *
for partial names (e.g. ben*) Chemfinder is the most
comprehensive resource for chemical compound data on
the Web at this time. Enter the formula, name, molecular
weight, or even a drawn structure fragment of a compound
and this database fills in the blanks and returns structural
formulas and a few other properties, along with compound-specific
MSDS links. The database presently contains over 75000
compounds, although detailed data is available only
for a few thousand of the most common compounds. This
free version of their subscription-based site has annoying
pop-up ads.
Chemistry
WebBook
(Use this site only if you already
know the chemical name of the molecule you will be researching,
not to browse.) Property and spectral data
for elements, organic compounds, and small inorganic
compounds can be retrieved by chemical formula, name,
partial formula, CAS registry number, molecular weight,
or by thermochemical properties. The database includes
thermochemical data (enthalpies, entropies, heat capacities,
...) for several phases and for reactions and phase
transitions, ion energetics data (ionization energies,
electron affinities, ...) and spectroscopic information
(IR, UV, visible, and mass spectra).
General
Chemistry Online - Common Compound Library
A searchable database of over 800 common compound names,
formulas, structures, and properties.
Simple,
Common, and Interesting Molecules
The Common Molecules is partially funded as part of
the ChemViz project
Molecular
Expressions
Welcome
to the Molecular Expressions Website featuring our acclaimed
photo galleries that explore the fascinating world of
optical microscopy. We are going where no microscope
has gone before by offering one of the Web's largest
collections of color photographs taken through an optical
microscope (commonly referred to as "photo-micro-graphs")
General
Chemistry Online
Excellent resource, includes a Common Compound Library
- A searchable database of over 800 common compound
names, formulas, structures, and properties.
Institute
of Chemistry - Berlin
Information about and structure of amino acids
Molecule
of the month - University of Bristol
(There is no search function on
this site look for a specific molecule, but you can
browse the list for a molecule that catches your interest.)
Marvelous
Molecules
This
contains information and diagrams for a small sample
(Acetominophen, Aspirin, Aspartame, Carbon Dioxide,
Nicotine, Serotonin, Silk, Trimethylamine) of molecules
in the exhibit at the New York Hall of Science.
Worthington
Enzyme Manual
This
site is technical, and comprised almost exclusively
of text, but it is organized alphabetically, and gives
a brief discription of the uses of each molecule at
the beginning of each entry. For enzymes and related
biochemicals.
Drug
Database
Detailed
information about dozens of common drugs, include chemical
structures, UV spectra, apparatus and parameters for
chromatographic separation, physical properties, and
activity type. The database has not been updated since
March, 1996.
Mirror
Molecules
This "Mirror Molecules" web presentation contains
activities that are intended for schoolchildren, grades
5 and up, under the direct supervition of adults. Presented
by the Smithsonian Institution. (This is a "fun"
website about molecules)
